Free Of Suffering

My grandfather, from my dad’s side of the family, died Thursday after a massive stroke.

This week, I could tell the sun was setting in the life of Clyde Morris. When I saw him Wednesday at the hospital, he clearly was not well. The stroke paralyzed his right side and he could not speak or swallow. A humbling experience, to say the least.

Over the last several years, he spent a lot of time reading — mainly The Bible. And if it wasn’t the best-selling book of all-time, he was probably reading something related to religion (mainly books about or written by Billy Graham).

My TV and radio bosses have graciously given me time off (been leaving early at WDAM; radio show will have a guest host to be announced Sunday). Visitation will be tonight, the funeral tomorrow and lots of needed reflecting thereafter.

Pops, we know you’re in a safe, better place — and free of suffering.
