ACTS 2:38!!!!

After detailing my “warts and all” history of radio, here’s a more wholesome story courtesy of my pastor.

The Rev. Mike Sahler of Petal United Methodist Church told us all the story of a lady who had just come home from a revival — only to be welcomed by a burglar.

As he was making his getaway with the goods, she screamed, “ACTS 2:38!!!!” In case you don’t have your copy of the all-time bestseller handy, Acts Chapter 2, Verse 38 reads…

“Then Peter said unto them, ‘Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.'”

Anyway, back to the burglary victim. After she screamed “ACTS 2:38!!!!”, the burglar froze in his tracks. Next thing you know, she’s on the phone with 911, relates the story of her screaming — say it with me now — “ACTS 2:38!!!!” and the burglar’s still scared stiff.

Minutes later, the police arrive. Before a cop reads the burglar his rights, the cop asks, “What made you stop in your tracks after she quoted you a chapter and verse of scripture?”

“Scripture?” the burglar asked. “I thought she said she had an ax and two .38’s.”
